Gallery Walk

Gallery Walk Struts Its Stuff - October 2, 2009

meridian-bank_colorGallery Walk debuted in downtown West Chester in June 1990 and quickly became an event to look forward to each spring and fall. Now in its 20th year, the tradition remains an integral part of the downtown scenery.
The event, held the first Friday in June and October, provides the perfect opportunity to experience the historic borough’s blend of urban sophistication and small town ambience. Each event welcomes an estimated 2,500 visitors, many of whom return again and again to enjoy all the town has to offer in the way of art, dining and shopping.
Attendees at the spring and fall events have discovered over the years that West Chester is home to a diverse mix of galleries featuring a wide range of artists and styles. Visitors delight at seeing the work of local, national and internationally-known painters, sculptors and photographers.
Along with finding familiar favorites, Gallery Walk participants also see what the emerging talents have in store. Exhibits over the years, featuring styles from traditional to contemporary and everything in-between, have included sculpture, photography, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, watercolor, acrylics, oil and more.
In addition to the eclectic mix of galleries represented, the evening also includes a variety of one-night shows designed to focus on the work of an individual or group of artists. Businesses such as banks, restaurants and retail shops have opened their doors to give up-and-coming craftsmen, local educational facilities and hospital art therapy programs a venue for their work which might not otherwise be viewed by such a wide audience.
